Smoother Sailing

Hingham Shipyard is celebrating the grand opening this week of its new waterfront shopping center after facing several setbacks because of the down economy. The Launch retail district, a short walk from the commuter boat, is a major part of the shipyard, the state’s largest suburban mixed-use development with direct ferry access.

ICON Senior Principal Steve Heikin served as the Town of Hingham’s design review consultant over a six year period, starting with the initial master plan submission in 2003, and working proactively with the Hingham Planning Board, town staff, and the various development partners to clarify and enhance the project’s site organization, the character of its public realm, and the design of the individual development components.
