- Fort Lewis College Student Union
- Durango, CO
-
The Student Union program includes a variety of student-oriented functions: central campus dining and conference facilities, student group suites and leadership offices, lounges and meeting rooms, ballroom, movie theater and performance space, radio station, bookstore, campus post office, environmental center, and a pub. A media center combines multiple functions (radio, TV, arts journal, creative writing journal, print and online newspaper).
Colorado’s plentiful sunshine dramatically shaped the facility's design. The addition incorporates vegetated roofs, clerestory daylighting, Solatube skylights, solar thermal hot water, and solar phoovoltaic in response to the regional climate. Use of local materials reduces the embodied energy in the project. The addition is LEED Gold certified.
