- ICON designed the Salem State University Central Campus Recital Hall, part of a $16M project that included classrooms, offices, practice, and performance space for the School of Music.
The overall adaptive reuse approach for the new space was carved from what was once the former plant's boiler room, taking its unique shape by means of a wood paneled "liner" within the existing shell. The liner is neither seamless nor complete and reflects architectural ideas related to musical concepts. Musical links between harmony and proportion inspired the overall design of the recital hall.
