NuVu+Virtual brings their full-time innovation school to students around the world. NuVu students are empowered to engage with real-world topics and solve problems through hands-on design. The school is seeking a new home in which to expand both as a home base for full-time and virtual students. The Blessed Sacrament Church in Hyde Square, Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, offers a unique setting for a unique school. Construction of the church finished in 1917. The building is about a half-acre in size and is distinguished by one of the greatest church facades in Boston, an entrance porch of two monumental Ionic columns 60 feet high supporting a pedimented attic. The church was closed in 2004, and has been empty since. The design proposes inserting a free-standing structure within the volume of the church, preserving the entire interior finishes. The main floor is preserved for community activities. Above are three stories of studios and offices.
