Sited along the Western Canal, just steps from downtown Lowell, this mixed-use development provides 27 safe, supportive rental homes for individuals in recovery from substance use. The project transforms an urban infill site into a high-performance, community-oriented building that enhances the adjacent canal walk while creating healthy, comfortable living environments.
Designed to Passive House standards, the building integrates residential units with ground-floor program space in partnership with Lowell House, including offices, community areas, and direct access to the outdoors. A publicly accessible laundry facility activates Merrimack Street and serves both residents and the surrounding community. Located within a historic overlay district, the building’s masonry façade, articulated with bays and vertically proportioned windows, reflects the scale and rhythm of Lowell’s historic commercial fabric.
