ICON participates in HomeStart’s iCycle 2015

ICON participated in the 8th annual iCycle fundraising event on February 26.

The event, benefiting HomeStart, brought more than 300 cyclists out in frigid temperatures to join an intense spin class and raise money towards homelessness prevention.

“Leading our iCycle team felt like a great way to make some new connections,” Team Captain and Project Designer Bethany Drab said. “I got to hang out with coworkers I normally don’t work with on a daily basis, while supporting a meaningful cause.”

This year, HomeStart raised a historic $200,000 at the event, which will help over 190 families and individuals out of homelessness and into permanent homes.

“ICON loves to support HomeStart and loves this event,” Team Captain and Project Designer Sally Ostendorf said. “iCycle is a really unique way to support the organization, raise awareness, and have a fun office bonding experience.”

Our team, which was the largest in ICON history, collectively raised over $10,000. Although the event was fun, it was not easy.

“This was my first year participating and it was grueling,” Project Manager Tim Synan said. “The 19-degree weather for our 9 AM ride was tough and the instructor was very excited to see the sweat running off our foreheads turn into ice as it hit the ground.”

Whether it was actually cycling, donating money or cheering the team on, Team ICON enjoyed the event and continues to support HomeStart’s mission.

“It was a great way to show support in the community,” Drab said. “It’s an important, meaningful cause we can all stand behind.”

To date, HomeStart has helped over 7,000 homeless families and individuals. For more information, please visit www.homestart.org.
