Rindge Commons

Rindge Commons is a phased urban intervention, developed in close collaboration with the City of Cambridge, that adds new affordable family housing to the existing community.

The first phase—the Economic Mobility Hub—is a 70,000-square-foot, mixed-use building that combines affordable housing with an education and job training center, expanding services for families across Cambridge and beyond. Designed to Passive House standards, the hub is prominently located at the intersection of Rindge Avenue and Alewife Brook Parkway in North Cambridge.

The project significantly extends the reach of Just A Start’s programs, advancing its mission to promote equity by increasing access to stable housing and creating pathways to economic opportunity. The lower floors are dedicated to workforce training and early childhood education, anchored by a new integrated training facility. Flexible classrooms, workshops, and laboratories support Biomedical and Information Technology adult career programs, as well as the YouthBuild program—enhancing both the quality and capacity of services for low-income adults and youth, and tripling the number of workforce development graduates served. Approximately 10,000 square feet of commercial space houses preschool classrooms, operated in partnership with the City of Cambridge.
