Ribbon Cutting at DYS

Last week, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker officially cut the ribbon for the $50M, ICON designed Northeast Regional Youth Services Center in Middleton, MA. Approximately 100 people attended the ceremony on Gregory Street in Middleton, including members from the ICON Architecture team who worked on the project. Operated by the Department of Youth Services, the 72,000 SF complex is designed to help troubled young people who are from both Essex and Middlesex counties. The building itself is state-of-the-art and innovative, and features top energy efficient components. It was designed with the idea in mind to generate natural light and solar-power to the entire complex, which can accommodate 45 youths within three residential wings. This facility is the first of its kind within the North Shore area, with Charlie Baker stating that “The region had a disparate set of parts covering a very broad geography, and this really gives the North Shore a footprint in a comprehensive and integrated service way.” Governor Baker went on to express his support of the facility, and commended everyone who was involved in the process of developing the center.
