The Game Studio + Idea Lab transforms a historic downtown commercial building into a collaborative academic and innovation space for Fitchburg State University. The project is part of a larger, multi-phase redevelopment of the Main Street Theater block.
The second floor houses the Game Design Studio, providing workstations for up to thirty students, a game-testing lounge, kitchenette, and conference rooms that support professional-level capstone work. Adjacent to the studio, the Idea Lab serves as a business incubator shared by the University and the broader Fitchburg community, encouraging cross-disciplinary collaboration.
A student-designed 11-foot by 118-foot ceiling mural anchors the space and reinforces its creative identity. Shared support spaces strengthen interaction between academic and entrepreneurial users while maintaining flexibility for future phases of development.
