Lincoln Multigenerational Community Center Lincoln, MA
Located on the Lincoln School campus at 6 Ballfield Road, the new 19,990 GSF single-story Lincoln Community Center provides a vibrant, multigenerational hub for the community. It brings together programs and services from the Council on Aging and Human Services (COA&HS), the Parks and Recreation Department (PRD), and the Lincoln Extended-Day Afterschool Program (LEAP).
The design prioritizes flexibility to accommodate a wide range of uses. Key shared spaces include:
-
A divisible multipurpose room with a full kitchen
-
A divisible fitness room
-
An activities room
-
A conference room
-
A central Community Gathering space that anchors the floor plan
To strengthen the connection between people and nature, the design emphasizes daylight, views, and seamless access to the outdoors. Every major shared space opens directly to the surrounding landscape, reinforcing the community’s commitment to wellness and sustainability.
The site features three primary outdoor areas:
-
The East Patio (Community), adjacent to the gathering space
-
The North Patio (Senior), a more tranquil garden area
-
The West Patio (Entry), which includes a rain garden
In addition to these outdoor spaces, the site includes a green play area, a small playground, and a paved ball court. A pedestrian bridge over Stony Brook connects the Community Center to additional resources, including overflow parking, playing fields, playgrounds, and the Codman Pool.
From the outset, the project team embedded sustainability into every aspect of the design. The Lincoln Multigenerational Community Center building meets Passive House envelope standards, runs entirely on electricity, and is photovoltaic (PV) ready. Once PV panels are installed, the project is anticipated to achieve Net Zero Energy, meaning it will produce as much energy as it consumes on an annual basis. To further reduce environmental impact, the team selected low-carbon materials and implemented carbon-conscious strategies during construction and operations.
